An adequate base for touring the locality. May be better in summer?!

We visited at the end of October so this review may not be indicative of what this site is like in the summer months.
Firstly, we booked this site via Pitch Up, choosing this particular one because, unlike the others in the area, it was advertising 20:00 check-in. At the point of booking we put down... 19:30 as our estimated time of arrival, and even wrote a request asking for confirmation that 20:00 was correct, but didn't hear anything back. So, roll on our arrival at 19:15 and the entire site was in darkness. Reception was locked. I tried ringing the bell but no answer. Thankfully there was a phone number on the sign outside and when I rang it a lady answered to tell me that it was closed (reception not the camp site). Luckily she appeared in reception from the house, and through broken English I eventually got checked in. I pointed to the 19:30 estimation on her Pitch Up print out so she couldn't really argue. She then informed me that the deposit for the barrier fob was either a passport or €50,despite the booking saying €20. I was then told I could choose any pitch I wanted, and as it was dark chose one near the toilet block.
The pitches were large and private with high hedgerows around. If using electricity, a European adaptor will be needed. When waking up and seeing the site in daylight, we realised that we were one of only a very small number of other pitches being used.
The toilets and showers were very basic. The toilets we individual blocks on the outside of the building, with open roof covered by a grill. Strange set up and very cold in the evening. No lights also meant going to the toilet whilst holding a torch. The showers themselves were fine, nice and warm, but the shower block was smelly, although by the second day the door had been propped open all night allowing some fresh air to come in. It looked as though some building work was being carried out to some of the showers.
All in all, a satisfactory site that served a purpose as a base for exploring. I wouldn't have liked to have had to spend too much time there though.
