Camping Siblu Domaine de Dugny - Funpass Inclus ^★★★★

⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 — A pleasant stay, but several areas for improvement. We stayed at the campsite for a week at the end of August with our two daughters, aged 5 and 7. Overall, the stay was fine, but there are several issues that prevent us from giving a rating higher than 3/5. The booking and arrival went very smoothly. We booked through a third-party provider and everything was straightforward. On arrival, the check-in process was quite smooth: there was little waiting at reception and all the necessary information was given to us in an envelope. We were very pleasantly surprised by the mobile home, which was new, clean and particularly well-equipped. It’s probably one of the best-equipped mobile homes we’ve stayed in so far. The small bottle of rosé offered on arrival was also a very nice touch. The kids’ club is a real highlight. Our daughters, aged 5 and 7, were able to go there every day and they were delighted. The activity leaders seemed very friendly and the children appeared to be having a great time. For parents, it’s also nice to be able to take a breather whilst they’re there. On the other hand, we found that there wasn’t much in the way of entertainment for children outside of the kids’ club activities. Unlike some other campsites we’ve visited, we hardly saw any mascots or impromptu entertainment for the children during the day. We also didn’t see the activity leaders very often outside of the scheduled activities. We do, of course, understand that they have other duties and cannot be constantly present, but it nevertheless gives the impression that entertainment plays a rather low-key role in the day-to-day life of the campsite. As for the evening entertainment, our opinion is more mixed. The shows were generally enjoyable and the entertainment staff clearly did their best, but we found the whole thing rather repetitive. Most of the shows were put on by the entertainment staff and the same dances were repeated regularly. Over the course of a week, we saw the same choreographed routines several times, sometimes on three consecutive evenings. This isn’t really a criticism of the entertainers themselves, who were committed and friendly, but rather a lack of variety in the entertainment. The evening when the children put on their own show also seemed far too long to us and not particularly well organised. Several groups of teenagers performed one after the other, which made the evening feel rather interminable. We do, of course, understand that the children were happy to be on stage, but a shorter, more dynamic programme would probably have been more enjoyable for everyone. Another downside to this evening was that the DJ was set up in the bar area, which is relatively small given the number of holidaymakers present. There were so many people that it was practically impossible to get into the bar area, and in the end we weren’t able to enjoy the evening. The water park is quite pleasant, although it was obviously very busy as we were there during the peak season. However, we found the maintenance to be rather poor: there were regularly bits and bobs floating in the water and the footbaths weren’t always very clean. The slides were fine. On the other hand, a big plus for the pool supervision, which we found to be thorough and reassuring. Check-out was also straightforward and hassle-free. On the other hand, we found that some members of staff, particularly at the bar and in the shop, weren’t always very friendly. Some also took the liberty of addressing us informally even though we didn’t know each other, which isn’t a huge issue in itself, but can give the impression of a lack of professionalism. Fortunately, this did not apply to all the staff. Finally, the shop is really very expensive, and more generally, we felt that the campsite was starting to show its age. Some of the facilities and areas could do with more maintenance and refurbishment. To sum up, we had a generally pleasant week, thanks in particular to the mobile home, the kids’ club and the friendliness of the activity leaders. However, between the lack of variety in the activities, the rather low-key entertainment for children, the sometimes mediocre cleanliness of the pool area, the general lack of upkeep, the insufficient size of certain areas relative to the number of holidaymakers, and the occasionally unfriendly attitude of some members of staff, we’re left with mixed feelings. 3/5 from us: a decent stay, but with several areas that could be improved to make the experience more enjoyable and lively.

The service at reception was very customer-focused; the accommodation was top-notch, really well-equipped and exactly as described. We were disappointed by the quality of the snacks, which put us off going into the restaurant.

I would like to share a rather disappointing experience regarding our first pitch, number 215, at the Domaine de Dugny. This pitch is situated right at the entrance junction to the campsite, with heavy traffic passing in front of the terrace and a virtually non-existent hedge, resulting in a complete lack of privacy. Throughout the first week, we also suffered from noise disturbance every night: the occupants of pitch 216 were chatting on their terrace until very late at night, including during the quiet hours stipulated in the campsite’s rules. The dog on pitch 237, occupied by a campsite employee, also barked at night. Added to this were several days of extremely noisy building work right in front of our mobile home: chainsaws, diggers, a Manitou, hedge removal, etc. We reported these disturbances from the very first night, and then regularly to reception and the night warden, but no real solution was ever found. We even asked to speak to the campsite manager. We finally had to move to a different pitch on Saturday 15 August, halfway through our stay, and were then finally able to enjoy our holiday as normal. I’ve been going on camping holidays for nearly 50 years and I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I am fully aware of the constraints of a campsite in peak season and I can certainly accept a certain level of noise, but in this case, we really felt as though we were living at a road junction undergoing roadworks, with disturbances day and night. We paid €1,434 for 14 days, and Campings.com awarded us €120 in compensation for this particularly difficult first week. This sum seems very low to me given the circumstances: €120 represents just 1.17 days’ stay, whilst we endured the disturbance for 7 days – half of our holiday. I am sharing this experience because I think it is a shame that such a pitch could be allocated to holidaymakers in peak season for a 14-day stay, when its features and location are clearly a far cry from what one would expect from a pitch that allows one to enjoy one’s holiday in peace.
