We spend two weeks at Camping Mayotte and overall had a very positive experience and a good family holidays.
PROS
- the site is situated in a beautiful location. Our caravan had a view of the forest which was lovely. The lake is stunning and a lot of water sports are on offer.
- the caravan is well... equipped and laid
- The bed was very good, which in our experience is very rare and appreciated
- all the employees were really friendly and helpful. If you looked lost, they would approach your to check everything was ok etc.
- the swimming pool and the restaurant are nice.
- there are lots of activities to keep everyone entertained.
- it is situated next to really nice cycling paths.
CONS
- the cleanliness was not to standard on arrival. It looked clean but if you looked under the beds or under the sofa, you could find items belonging to previous occupants like a sock, a flashing ball, a pair of earrings and a lot of dirt. Not very reassuring in the context of a pandemic. The bathrooms weren't that clean particularly the showers and you could find hair belonging to previous occupants. The outside was also quite dirty with massive spiderwebs on on caravan, outside furniture etc.. Also . I am sure it is difficult to keep rodents at bay but we also had the misfortune of seeing a rat running towards and hiding under our caravan. Eek!
- the second major downside was complete lack of covid measures.. There are no slots at the swimming pool, which means that if it is a warm day, it is impossible to observe any distancing measures. Nothing is disingected between use eg, sunbeds etc. You could count on your hands the number of people wearing masks at all or correctly even in the entertainment hall in the evening. At the tween and teen clubs no one wore masks, not even the leaders. Even during the night market where the wearing of a mask is allegedly compulsory, compliance was low, even from the sellers/staff etc. Apart form a few gel dispenser, the rest was very much lip service. It would only take one person to have had covid for most of the camp to catch it, and we will be very lucky if we haven't caught it.
- other downsides were: patchy cable service, patchy internet and cold water for 10 days.
