Caution

I don't normally write reviews but I feel I must warn people who intend to visit Camping Les Fougeres.
My husband, a friend and I recently rented one of the cabins at the campsite, which we paid :
* deposit for the cabin
* payment for the cabin
* payment for towels: This was a hand towel and standard... size towel for each person.
* bedding: (which you make yourself)
* 60 euro payment for cleaning the cabin after departing
Upon arrival we were greeted by Sophie and Thierry at the reception desk.. all was well and in order, though we were told we needed to pay another deposit of 300 euros which we would get back once we leave, this was for any breakages. Ok, all still fine.
Once we were taken down to the cabin Sophie walked into the cabin (with shoes on- remember this) and walked us around the cabin which seems much smaller in real life but fine for us as we were just using it as a base as much of our time was going to be spent at the beach. Sophie checked each and every gas hob, checked the microwave was working, checked the tv and made sure the channels were working.
Important things to note is that they do not have a kettle or leave any toilet paper, bathroom matt or cleaning equipment other than one broom on the porch.
Once we were due to leave I had made arrangements with Sophie that we were going to leave by 11am, as it happened we were actually ready by 10am so we went down to reception to let them know. Sophie wasn't very happy that we hadn't stuck to our prearranged time but said she would come down to do in inspection in 5 minutes.
I need to make a point here though. There were three adults staying for a week. We cleaned the kitchen each night, none of us drank at all over the week, were in bed by 10pm each night as we were surfing early each morning, we left no rubbish, no dirty dishes, nothing littering the bathroom, nothing other than a normal amount of dirt on the floor other than a little sand from the beach. I can't stress this enough... It was a used but not a dirty cabin.
Once she arrived I knew we were in trouble! She got to the front door and took her shoes off.. she then marched from room to room angrily saying something in French, literally throwing the bedding around the room, walked into the shower picked up one of the hand towels we had used as a bathroom matt (water goes into the side bedroom if you don't have one) and asked if we'd been using it for the toilet! She was ranting about not picking up rubbish after us and slammed the cupboard door where the rubbish is kept..there wasn't any as we had taken it to the recycling area already, she then checked every towel for marks all the while telling us we were not polite. also slammed a saucepan into the sink (we'd been using it to boil water as a kettle) and told us we were so dirty and disrespectful.
My husband asked if there was a problem and said that if she wanted us to clean the cabin before departing to give us 20 minutes and we would which she replied by putting her hand up to his face and saying that she no longer wanted to talk with him.
My husband and friend went outside to wait.
Whilst we had been packing our things some beach sand must have come from one of our bags onto one of the patio chairs because as she was locking the place up -all while still telling me I wasn't polite- she noticed it and slammed the chair under the table.
Hand on my heart, I have never experienced anything like this before. As I have said, the place was used, there was some beach sand on the floor but was far from dirty. And bare in mind we had actually paid a 60 euro cleaning fee! Our mouths just dropped when she started her inspection.
I'm not sure if she was trying to get us to hand over some of the 300 euro deposit she'd taken or something but it really put a dampener on what was a great holiday.
On a brighter note!
The location of the camp is actually pretty good, it' a quiet campsite which has a bbq area by the front desk but be sure to take a grill if you want to use the bbq. There's a book exchange area and offer a bakery service for morning croissants. Thierry was friendly and was helpful with directions to local areas.
