Pleasant Stay in French Seaside Campsites

  • Honestly, there's nothing quite like a beach camping holiday in France. You wake up to the sound of waves, wander over to the campsite bakery in your flip-flops for warm croissants, spend the day between the beach and pool, and everything just feels easier somehow. No stress, no rush, just proper holiday vibes.

  • The thing about France is the sheer variety. You've got wild Atlantic beaches with massive waves and endless sand dunes. Mediterranean shores where the water's warm as bath water and the sun barely stops shining. Rocky Breton coves that feel like you've discovered a secret. Whatever kind of beach person you are, France has got you covered.

The Atlantic Coast - Big Skies and Even Bigger Beaches

  • The Atlantic has this amazing wild quality that Mediterranean beaches just don't. The light's different, the air smells of pine forests and salt, and the beaches go on forever.

  • The Vendée is massive with families. Places like Saint-Jean-de-Monts have these gorgeous long sandy beaches, gentle waves, and campsites with incredible water parks. It's properly set up for family holidays without feeling too commercialized.

  • The islands - Île de Ré and Île d'Oléron - are absolutely lovely. Dead flat so perfect for cycling, beautiful beaches everywhere, and these charming little villages selling oysters and local wine. It's incredibly relaxed. People just slow right down when they get there.

  • Down in the Landes near Hossegor, you're in serious surf territory. Even if you're not into surfing, the beaches are stunning. Long straight stretches backed by pine forests, decent beach bars, and this cool surf culture vibe. It's quite different from typical French seaside resorts.

  • The Basque coast around Biarritz is gorgeous. Rockier, more dramatic, with excellent food and this unique Basque culture. The beaches are beautiful and you're right on the Spanish border, so you can easily pop across for the day.

The Mediterranean - Sunshine Pretty Much Guaranteed

  • The Med coast is what most people picture when they think French beach holiday. Hot weather, warm sea, and beaches that look like postcards.

  • Languedoc-Roussillon doesn't get enough credit. The coast around Argelès-sur-Mer and Cap d'Agde is brilliant - miles of sandy beaches, loads of sunshine, and way better value than the posh bits further east. You get proper Mediterranean weather without the crowds or prices.

  • The Camargue is something else entirely. Wild horses, flamingos, cowboys herding bulls, endless beaches. It's this unique landscape that feels almost otherworldly. Campsites near Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer put you right in the middle of it all.

  • The Côte d'Azur sounds expensive, but camping makes it totally doable. Campsites near Saint-Tropez, Fréjus, and Sainte-Maxime mean you can experience the French Riviera without selling a kidney. The beaches are gorgeous, the water's incredible, and yes, you do feel rather fancy.

  • Further east towards Italy, you've got Nice, Antibes, and Menton. Beautiful coastline, crystal-clear water, stunning villages perched on hillsides. It's properly beautiful.

  • The Var coast near Hyères has some of the best beaches on the whole Mediterranean. That perfect turquoise water, lovely towns, and you're close to the Porquerolles islands which are absolutely stunning.

Brittany - Dramatic and Totally Different

  • Brittany's coast is nothing like the rest of France. Rugged cliffs, hidden coves, beaches that feel genuinely wild. The weather's less reliable than down south, but when it's nice, it's absolutely magical.

  • The Pink Granite Coast is bizarre and beautiful - weird rock formations, lovely beaches, traditional fishing villages. Southern Brittany around the Gulf of Morbihan is calmer, great for sailing, and the crêpes are ridiculous.

  • La Baule has one of Europe's longest beaches, while Quiberon offers dramatic scenery and excellent seafood. The whole Breton culture thing is quite strong too - Celtic music, amazing fish and shellfish, their own language. It feels properly distinctive.

Normandy - Underrated and Lovely

  • People don't really think of Normandy for beach holidays, but it's actually quite lovely. The Côte Fleurie - Deauville, Cabourg, Honfleur - has this elegant, old-fashioned charm. Yes, it's cooler than the south, but there's something nice about a proper northern beach holiday.

  • The D-Day beaches combine history with beautiful coast. Further west, the Cotentin Peninsula is wild and dramatic with brilliant seafood. It's not touristy at all, which some people really prefer.

When should we go for the best weather?

July and August are peak season with glorious sunshine, warm seas, and the full campsite experience - kids' clubs, evening shows, and that brilliant holiday atmosphere.

June and September are absolutely gorgeous too, especially on the Mediterranean where you'll still enjoy 25-30°C and warm swimming. These shoulder months offer a more relaxed pace and excellent value.

The Atlantic coast is stunning from late June through August, with long sunny days perfect for beach life. Spring and early autumn on the Med can be surprisingly warm and wonderful if you prefer quieter beaches.

Mobile Home or Pitch ?

Mobile homes are brilliant if you want home comforts without the faff. Proper kitchen, decent beds, your own bathroom, and usually a terrace where you can sit with a glass of wine once the kids are asleep. They're spot on for families who want things easy.

If you're more of a traditional camper, pitches give you loads of space for your tent, caravan, or campervan. You still get all the campsite facilities and beach access, but with that proper outdoor camping feel. Pick whatever suits you.

Which coast should we choose?

The Vendée on the Atlantic is perfect for families - stunning sandy beaches, world-class campsites, and that wonderful laid-back Atlantic vibe. Languedoc on the Mediterranean delivers endless sunshine, beautiful beaches, and fantastic value.

Brittany offers dramatic coastal scenery, unique Celtic culture, and charming fishing villages. The Côte d'Azur brings that glamorous French Riviera lifestyle within reach through camping.

Each coast has its own magic - the Atlantic feels wild and natural, while the Mediterranean offers that classic warm-sea holiday. You honestly can't make a bad choice.

Will our dog be welcome?

French campsites are generally very pet-friendly! Most welcome dogs with open arms - just bring vaccination documents and there's usually a small daily fee. Your dog will love the outdoor camping lifestyle with beach walks, open spaces, and having the family around all day.

Many campsites have dedicated dog facilities and you're often near dog-friendly beaches or coastal paths perfect for morning and evening walks. It's a wonderful way to holiday with your four-legged family member.

What facilities can we expect?

French beachfront campsites offer fantastic facilities. Think impressive aquatic parks with heated pools, thrilling water slides, and dedicated kids' splash areas.

Direct beach access means you're on the sand within minutes.

Kids' clubs provide brilliant entertainment, while sports facilities include tennis, football, volleyball, and bike hire for exploring coastal paths. On-site restaurants serve delicious food, bakeries provide fresh croissants each morning, and well-stocked shops make self-catering easy.

Mobile homes come fully equipped with everything you need. Many premium sites even feature spa facilities, water sports equipment, and evening entertainment. It's camping with serious comfort.

Atlantic or Mediterranean?

Both coasts are absolutely wonderful, just different experiences.

The Mediterranean gives you that classic hot sunny holiday with beautifully warm sea - perfect for families wanting guaranteed beach weather and that relaxed southern vibe.

The Atlantic offers dramatic scenery, fantastic surf, miles of pristine sandy beaches, and that special wild coastal atmosphere. The light is incredible, the air smells of pine forests, and there's something magical about those big Atlantic skies.

Many families love the Med's reliability, while others adore the Atlantic's natural beauty and surf culture. Why not try both and discover your favourite?
