Camping Le Ruisseau ^{★★★★★}

We were surprised on arrival to find that the campsite was divided into two parts, separated by a road. The campsite was too big for us, as depending on where you’re pitched, the water park is quite a long way away.
We didn’t feel the entertainment was up to the standard of a 5-star campsite: it lacked energy and there weren’t enough lively activities, such as a dance night, karaoke or a blind test...
The water park for the children was absolutely brilliant, and the balneotherapy area was a real highlight.
The restaurant was also excellent.
Another downside was the lack of lighting in the evening. There were no lights at all from around 10.30 pm onwards.
We had a good week as the campsite is nice, but it didn’t quite suit us perfectly.

I think the evening entertainment could be improved. For a campsite of this size and a 5-star campsite, the evenings should have been more festive and lively (shows, a larger stage, better poolside entertainment). However, this campsite is the second-best in terms of service that I’ve ever booked.

What really impressed us was how clean and well-maintained the flowerbeds were.
The toilet facilities are always very clean.
Well done to the staff responsible for these tasks.
The campsite is spacious and well-equipped for a range of activities.
Our teenagers didn’t particularly enjoy the club’s activities, but that’s a matter of taste.
The only downside is that it’s a shame not all mobile homes have air conditioning.

Unfortunately, the description stated that there would be daily evening entertainment during peak season, but we’ve just spent that first week of the peak season there and there were only 6 out of 7 events, including 2 football matches to watch (so if you don’t like football, it’s off to bed) and a bingo session at €5 a ticket; in fact, we still wanted to take part in the bingo despite the high cost of the cards, and we thought it was a shame that some rounds had consolation prizes in the event of a tie (a pâté terrine) whilst other people didn’t receive any consolation prizes. I was one of them, and other families were in the same situation as us.
Then there’s a charge for the treetop adventure course, and a charge for the golf course (€5 per adult, €3 per child),
Apart from these downsides, the staff were very friendly, the swimming pools are simply magnificent and a real treat for the children, the campsite is situated close to some very pretty and well-known towns, and a free shuttle bus takes us to Bidart every thirty minutes. So there are definitely positives; you just have to expect to have to dig into your wallet whilst there, given the high cost of the lottery, the treetop adventure course and the mini-golf. And perhaps hope for some proper daily entertainment once the World Cup is over. Unfortunately, this is the slightly disappointing aspect, because one of the main reasons we go camping is for the evening entertainment, and unfortunately, with the two matches, we only had four entertainment events to choose from, one of which was a paid event.
