Decent spa, but a terrible welcome at reception

We booked Hotel Terme expecting a smooth start to our stay, and unfortunately the front desk experience on arrival was very bad. The staff at reception were unwelcoming and unhelpful — no warmth, no proper greeting, and what should have been a simple check-in turned into a frustrating ordeal. For a... hotel that advertises 4 stars, this kind of service at the door is hard to excuse, since it sets the tone for the whole visit.
Once we got past that, the hotel itself is a mixed bag. The rooms are clean and reasonably comfortable, and parts of the building have clearly been renovated. But the front lobby and the common areas feel dated and in real need of updating. The food was decent in places but lacked variety for a 4-star hotel, and the prices — both for meals and for drinks — felt high for what you actually get.
The best part of the stay was the indoor pool and spa area, which were clean, relaxing, and not overcrowded. That, together with the proximity to the thermal riviera, is the main reason to consider this hotel.
Overall: a good spa location let down badly by an unwelcoming front desk. If management can fix the reception experience and refresh the common areas, it would deserve its rating much more. As it stands, the arrival left a sour impression that the rest of the stay only partly recovered from.
