Things I wish I'd known before I went.

Make no mistake about it this is a campsite with spectacular views and a hard-working welcoming management team. However, it's a bit off the beaten track and it's an unusual campsite and there's a number of things that I'd like to have known before I went.
1. Gravel. Gravel is everywhere on this site... as are stones of varying size. This is a not a campsite to be bare-foot in, or to be wearing thin-soled footwear. My feet were very sore after a week and I sometimes wished that I had proper walking boots. Even the children playground is covered in gravel, which would make a child falling off a swing also have gravel rash.
2. The road to the site is, as you might expect in the Alps, is steep. If you were towing this might make this difficult. Local drivers (I assume) will tailgate you.
3. The roads around the site are also very steep with unforgiving corners in places. The management do have a tractor to help caravans.
4. Many pitches are small, uneven, covered in stones or gravel and parking is tight. Frequently there are steep drops. This was not a campsite I would choose to come back in the dark to, unless I parked at the entrance rather than at my tent. Space for larger tents is limited.
5. The sanitary facilities are kept very clean, but there are few. Often you will queue. The loos are tiny.
6. The non-slip tiles around the pool get very hot and are gravelly. They were painful to stand on when the temperature was 36 degrees.
7. The nearest Supermarket was 20-30 mins drive away, although the village of Corps (which I couldn't find a supermarket in) is a bit nearer.
8. There are few 'attractions' in the immediate area, although I can recommend the Mine museum. On the other hand if walking/climbing/cycling is your pleasure then this has it all in abundance.
Overall, we were a bit disappointed. A lot of this was not knowing or understanding the character of the site before we turned up, 1000 miles from home. The scenery is spectacular, especially from the pool. But overall, without the appropriate gear, the site isn't that comfortable. It's bumpy, space is limited and people get very territorial, the people on the next pitch wouldn't let us walk pass their tent and insisted we walk the long way around. The water supply failed for a some hours on the last but one day we there (no explanation) which finished us off. We left the following morning.
