Lovely campsite with close airport commute

We spent 11 nights here during last week May/first week June. We flew into Beziers Airport which is around 20 mins by car from the campsite. As the airport itself is very small with only a handful of flights each day, we weren’t sure if there would be enough taxis waiting outside so we opted to... pre-order one to meet us. This cost €55 to transport 2 people from the airport to the campsite.
The campsite is quite compact, with all main services (supermarket, laundry, bakery, bar/restaurant, takeaway, ice cream parlour, arcade, playground, entertainment/stage area and water park), located in one area behind Reception.
The main water park is a great size and has a variety of pools and slides to suit all ages There’s a large area for sun loungers on astro turf at one end of the pool complex, and then a separate small section with sun loungers tightly packed under a handful of umbrellas at the other end and sunbeds are also around the main outdoor pool. There’s no charge for sunbeds, and while we were there, there was a fairly good turnover of beds throughout the day so we always ended up getting somewhere to sit whatever time we went, though sometimes there was a challenge to get some shade. Temperatures were up in the low-mid 30s while we were there and as we were travelling with a 3 month old, for us the pool complex could have done with more shade options but appreciate that’s not an issue for sun worshippers. Security staff greet you as you enter the pool area and are very strict of their no food/drink policy around the pool. There’s a nice pool bar that serves drinks/ snacks/ice-cream and paninis.
Our favourite and a beautiful bonus to the campsite is the lagoon pool complete with artificial sand and a number of cabanas located around the edge for shade. The lagoon is in a separate area of the campsite near the spa, and as numbers are restricted it never gets too busy so has a real relaxing atmosphere.
The campsite supermarket is ok. As we had no car, we really relied on its stock which seemed to be hit and miss throughout our stay. There was a good selection of long life and household items but a serious lack of fresh produce. For our first few days there was no stock of what we would consider basic food items – butter, ham, fresh milk, etc and a really poor fruit/vegetable/meat selection. Good selection of wine but limited beer choices, and no freezer items - just two empty freezers. The supermarket didn’t carry fresh bread or ice-cream - these items had to be bought in the bakery and ice cream parlour when they were open.
The site takeaway sells good quality pizza, burgers, chips and chicken nuggets, and there’s also a really good onsite bakery selling a great range of breads and cakes, as well as filled croissants and rolls. We ate at the campsite restaurant one evening but didn’t find the food to be a very good quality – maybe it was just our choices. There are two restaurants very close to the campsite – one across from the main gate which we definitely found better than the campsite restaurant, but the one we were really impressed with was Pizzeria Le Triangle which is about a minute walk to the right when you leave the campsite via the gate to the beach. We ate there on our last night and wished we had discovered it sooner as the food, staff and atmosphere were excellent, and really good value for money.
The main campsite bar is fine and has full view of the entertainment/stage area.
There was some entertainment onsite every evening from 9.00 - 9.30pm, whether it be a play, live band, bingo, etc. Travelling with a 3 and 4 year old, the kiddies disco was our real highlight so we were a little underwhelmed to discover that while we were there it was only held twice a week from 8.00 to 8.30pm!! Considering the amount of young children staying onsite, and the fact that the disco attracts a huge number of parents/kids each time it’s on, it’s a pity the site cannot recognise it’s popularity and have it on every night like on other sites – maybe it increases during the peak season. The disco itself was also a little disappointing as the host spoke a lot between each song, so for the 30 minute disco, music only played for about 15 minutes of that!!
The site boasts its proximity to the beach which is a good 10 minute walk down a laneway from the site. On our first evening we walked down to have a look but weren’t very impressed – yes there’s plenty of beach but it’s a public beach so at the time of day we visited the first sight that greeted us was rubbish piled up around overflowing bins. Also not sure if there are any facilities there – we couldn’t see any toilets, etc. We didn’t see the appeal to return and spend time there, especially with the beautiful clean lagoon pool onsite.
There’s a bus stop directly outside the campsite and this bus (Line L) brings you into Valras Plage for €1, takes approx 20 minutes and can be really packed. A day trip into Valras Plage is definitely worth it. We visited on one of the rare cloudier days and enjoyed a beautiful lunch at La Maeva Restaurant - can highliy recommend it

Our holiday didn’t have the best start as there were a couple of issues with our accommodation. The first was our mobile locations. We had booked 2 three bedroom mobiles directly with the campsite – one for my daughter’s family and one for us. We had also paid an additional fee to have both mobiles located close to each other and this was highlighted in bold on the Accommodation Voucher. However when we were checking in and were shown the mobile locations on the map, they was some distance apart. This was immediately raised with the reception staff, and after a lot of checking and double checking, and with the involvement of several staff members and waiting around for approx 20 minutes, we were relocated to a closer mobile. No apology was given and it felt we had created a hassle though it was their oversight.
The second issue was the type of mobiles allocated to us. On the websites promoting this campsite, there’s a wide range of mobiles displayed – many of which are deemed “Premium” but with completely different mobile styles, decking and pricing to match. Because our stay was working out really good value for money, we selected a fancier and more modern style of mobile with 2 lots of french doors opening out onto the terrace and which were the more expensive “Premium” options. So after the delay in checking in, we finally dragged our cases through the campsite to our mobiles and we were really disappointed to see that we were both allocated the typical 3 bedroom mobiles we are very familiar with and in no way matched the images portrayed on the websites. We returned to reception to query this but were fobbed off with the excuse that the website images are not contractual and that the mobiles we’ve been allocated are equipped the same as the ones we had booked. We feel this is very misleading and dishonest by Homair/the campsite. If all mobiles are equipped the same, then why are the promoters of the campsite showing images of more stylish ones, with open decking, and charging higher rates than the others? In terms of the mobiles themselves, yes they are very well equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay, except for “pillows” - these were really poor quality that offered absolutely no support, even if folded over!
Overall, we really did enjoy our holiday in Camping La Yole and would happily return again. It’s a good sized campsite with an easy airport commute, with plenty of onsite facilities, and the 11 night stay was excellent value for money. Though we did encounter a couple of hiccups with our mobiles at the beginning, we didn’t let that spoil our holiday and while adults can notice and be critical of things, our 3 and 4 year old grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed themselves – they absolutely loved all the pools, slides, playground, trampolines and arcade, and we have great holiday memories to treasure.
