Noisy Depressing Holiday Camp with an Expensive Price Tag!

After passing through St-Jean-de-Monts a couple of years ago and being impressed with the lovely beach and clean promenade, we thought it would be great to spend a week of our holiday here in the hope of good weather and mainly resting on the beach.
The Campsite has a 4 star rating, which personally... I think should be a lot less! We have stayed in French Campsites for around 20 years and this is the worse one we have ever stayed on! Let me qualify that statement:
We had an Emplacement as we had our own caravan - the pitch itself was a good size with water and electricity. It was in the middle of static mobile homes, which is not a problem for us. But, it had a road behind it, which although small was like the M25 and particularly so at night between 11pm and 3am! Not only was it used as a run to avoid the main road in the front of the campsite, it was the main route to several other campsites and the beach behind.
In addition to this there was loud music and entertainment going on nearly every night and although the entertainment on our campsite finished before midnight on nearly all of the evenings, other campsites around were so loud it could be heard until 2-3am on several nights. It was only when we bought some earplugs (from Mr Bricolage) that we are finally able to get some rest on the 4th night!
The main toilet block was one of the most depressing blocks we have come across - my daughter called it a 'dungeon' - it was so dark (even when the lights were on!). There were no lights over the toilet cubicles or most of the showers. It was certainly not 4star rating. Although there was a toilet roll dispenser near the entrance - when it was filled in the morning it was insufficient for the number of people using it and only lasted for less than half an hour - so if you stay here remember to always take your own paper.
Big minus point was the lack of security - there were no barriers during the day and situated between two busy roads this seemed inadequate for families. As we drove along the roads it seemed to be the only campsite without the barriers.
The bar was tatty and tired - very uninviting unlike the bar area over the road at Camping Les Places Doree. This seemed a much better more inviting area.
I think it is shocking that after paying some of the highest camping rates in France, you are also expected to pay for wifi, which is only available in the bar area!
On a plus point, the lady in reception was very friendly.
The Swimming Pool was good - a good time to go was around 5-6pm when it was quieter.
I may sound harsh, but this is the worse campsite we have stayed in in France as it was extremely noisy and stressful as a result of the noise - it seemed to wake up at 11pm and not quiet down until 2-3am which was useless for us. It was also quite a long way to the lovely beach of St-Jean-de-Monts as it is located further out and in Notre Dame as you exit St-Jean-de-Monts.
This campsite will suit you if you like Mobile Homes and you enjoy staying up late, but if you want a quiet restful site it is definitely not for you!
I have given it a Poor Rating rather than Terrible because of the size of the pitch and the good pool areas otherwise it would be a Terrible Rating.
