Excellent family site

This was the second time we had stayed at La Yole. The first was August 2019, perhaps due to pent up demand August 2022 was definitely busier.
The site is situated about 10-15mins drive from St Jean de Monts itself, a short (1.5km) walk away from le Plage des Mouettes. It’s an excellent base to... explore the local area, quite a few attractions like Beauland Park (fun fair) and Atlantic Tobbogan (water park) etc are located along the coast road close by. Further afield you have Ile de Normoutier, St Gilles and even Commequiers with its velo rail and Medieval Festival on the first weekend in August.
The campsite is also close to a lot of cycle paths through the pine forest which leads to St Jean de Monts and further a field.
The site itself is well landscaped and maintained, all trees and shrubs are well cut and trimmed with pitches clearly marked out. We stayed at a camping pitch with water and electricity. Only small issue was that there was no grey water disposal at pitch. I believe if you had a caravan or camper you may have been able to hook up a pipe to some sort of drain but not 100% sure.
If you have children the playground is large and well appointed, it can get busy around this corner of the site, however the pitches are larger here. The kids club/animations is also well run. Our children used it several days and enjoyed it.
The pool area is busy, there’s a children’s pool, a main pool with a slide, an indoor pool and a heated pool with a small lazy river. There are also a few jacuzzi areas. It was quite busy and if you didn’t get a sun lounger early then you were quite stuck. We saw the life guard remove some towels a few times, unfortunately some people would put towels down and not use the beds. Not uncommon in holiday resorts but inconsiderate for other guests.
There are three/four ablution blocks all of which are cleaned to a high standard daily.
There is a small shop onsite which sells essentials, it’s pricey but there is a Super U express a short bike ride away so generally you’re only using it when you’re stuck. likewise there is a bakery with a great selection also beside Super U if the shop has run out, or is too pricey.
Reception staff were friendly, helpful and tolerated my attempts at French. We had booked early but the price had went up between booking and arrival which meant we paid slightly more (about €30) not too much but it was an unwelcome surprise nonetheless. One small point to raise was the lack of standalone freezer for ice packs. Perhaps there is little demand in these days of large mobile homes and caravans which likely have their own freezer compartment, however we use a small camping fridge but like to take a cool bag for picnics and the like. Somewhere to freeze these would be welcome. We were able to use the staff fridge at reception but it was hit an miss whether they had the room.
The bar restaurant area we found to be a weak point of the site, we only ate take away two nights. The quality of the food was so so and was expensive. That said it was always busy and they had entertainment on each evening. Some local cover bands, karaoke, a magician etc. The entertainment varied in quality and service at the bar always seemed a bit chaotic. It was always closed by 2300hrs and generally the site was quiet at night. Any loud noise came from other sites nearby. I believe there was one night with unruly guests however these were some distance away and were dealt with by night porter.
We may holiday elsewhere in France in the coming years and see more of the country. However when we return to the Vendée then I would not hesitate to return to La Yole.
