CZECH REPUBLICIt is divided into two regions, Bohemia and Moravia, and its medieval buildings and breathtaking cities attract many tourists. The country is bordered by Germany, Poland, Austria and Slovakia. The capital city of Prague, more than one thousand years old, offers majestic architectural constructions.
Prague castle, founded in the 9th century, and repeatedly burned and invaded, still hosts churches, chapels, several halls and some towers, and nowadays it also hosts the Prime Minister office. Within the area of the castle, the visitor can find the emblematic Saint Vitus Cathedral, build following the gothic style; the Royal Palace; the Golden Lane, a picturesque street with handcraft workshops; and the Royal Garden. Malá Strana, in the city, still hosts its intact baroque palaces, churches and old houses, and offers a wonderful view of the Old Town.
Tourist highlights are Nerudová Street, St. Nicholas Church, Wallenstein Palace, Charles Bridge and the Jewish quarter, specially the Staronová synagogue and the old graveyard.
In the Old Town the visitor should not miss mentioning the Town Hall, a Renaissance palace, and the Municipal House. From the New Town, inhabited from 1348 by merchants and craftsmen, it is worth mentioning the breathtaking National Theatre.
Excursions not to miss: Karlstein Castle, Kutná Hora, the spa waters of Carlsbad, and Cesky Krumlov, a beautiful medieval city.
Relaxed atmosphere and good local beer, such as Pilsner.
