Coastal land with wonderful beaches along the Adriatic sea, Croatia is bordered by Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Croatia has ten wonderful nature reserves and some National Parks: Plitvce, Paklenica, Brijuni, and Risnjak, among others. The coast enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with dry, warm summers and mild winters. The country can be divided in three parts: mountains in the north and around Zagreb, the Adriatic rocky coastline called the Dinaric Alps; and the inland valleys part of Pannonia plain, including river Sava.
The capital city of Zagreb hosts the Living Animation Festival. For sports lovers, worth mentioning are the ski resorts of Gorski kotar, Delnice, Mrkopalj, Bjelolasica and Platak, as well as the up to 80 mountain refuges and hostels spread around the country and the wide range of possibilities to sail and even rent sailing boats.
The country has been widely influenced from the cultural point of view. Along the coast you can find Roman and Middle Age monuments, while inland there are prehistoric sites, and Late Middle Age, Baroque and modern monuments.
Croatia's climate is considered to be a very healthy one, and the country has a wide range of thermal springs and spa centres, such as Umag, Opatija, Crikvenika, Varazdin, Stubica and Krapina.
